Elderly, Confucius recalls his past when he was promoted from Mayor to Minister for Law in his home state of Lu. Disappointed by his lord’s failure to undertake reforms, Confucius embarks on a self-exile and becomes a wandering scholar. After many hardships, he regains respect and returns to Lu, spending the rest of his life imparting wisdom to his disciples.
