Daigo loses his job as a cellist when his orchestra is suddenly dissolved. He returns to his hometown with his wife looking for work. He answers a classified ad entitled "Departures" thinking it is an advertisement for a travel agency, but the opening is actually for a "Nokanshi" or "encoffineer," a funeral professional who prepares deceased bodies for burial.
