Set in 1814 Japan, the story centers on O-Ei, the daughter of Katsushika Hokusai, a renowned ukiyo-e painter and printmaker of the Edo period. O-Ei struggles to handle her personal life and own artistic aspirations as spends the great bulk of her time helping her divorced father who is obsessed by his work.
