In a Japanese fishing village, Takata misses his estranged son Kenichi, who is dying from a terminal illness, but still refuses to see him. After his daughter-in-law Rie gives him a video of his son’s unfinished folk opera documentary in the remote Chinese village of Lijiang, Takata travels there to shoot the rest and give the tape to Kenichi.
